Concordia Lutheran Church has been serving the Machesney Park and Loves Park areas for over sixty years. Our message is God's Word. We preach, teach and confess that Jesus suffered and died, rose from the dead, and through Him we have eternal life.

 

Concordia is a fairly small congregation. We strive to be a warm and welcoming community of believers. We would love to have you join us for worship.

 

Beyond our weekend worship, our primary mission is to reach and teach and build up children. We accomplish this through our Concordia Lutheran School.

 

What We Believe

Every teaching of Concordia is based in the Bible. We often summarize our faith using three simple phrases, coined by the 16th century teacher, Martin Luther, "Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone."

 

Grace alone is way of expressing the belief that if it were not for the grace of God we would be without hope of salvation. The Father sent His one and only Son to be the payment for every injustice, every wrong, every sin. Through His perfect life and death on the cross, Jesus fulfilled the Father's will. In love for us, Jesus was raised to life on the third day. Through His gracious action we receive forgiveness, life and salvation.

 

Faith alone means we do not depend on our decision or choice, in fact, we confess that we cannot of our own ability choose or decide to welcome Jesus into our lives. It is the Holy Spirit who works this saving faith in us, through Holy Baptism, and through the study of the Bible.

 

Scripture alone, as already stated, is the only source and norm for our teaching and our belief.

Our School

​

Soon after opening as a Lutheran Church, the membership of Concordia determined that it would be a great blessing for our members and for the community if we would have a Lutheran elementary school. Concordia Lutheran School opened in the fall of 1961. Since that time thousands of children have walked the halls of Concordia, receiving a Christ-centered education. Many have gone on to excel in high school and beyond.

 

Currently our school educates children pre-school (3 and 4 year olds) through the fifth grade. After grade five our program continues through Rockford Lutheran Schools, of which we are a member congregation.
